Project 52: Week 8 {Personal Photography Project}

This week's Project 52 theme is "COLOR".  A great place to go for design inspiration is the local fabric shop.  I've found so many inspiring fabrics that have been a starting point for my own digital artwork....patterns, colors, and even the relationship of various patterns when mixed together.  So here is a glimpse at just one small section of the store where I jotted off some notes for future design projects.  ;)

For those interested in settings, I used the Canon 135L at ISO 1250, 1/125, F5, natural light, handheld.  In post, I enhanced the focal blur by about 25% on the left section of the image.  **should've shot using a shallower aperture**

Project 52: Week 7 {Personal Photography Project}

This week's Project 52 theme is "love".  How appropriate since yesterday was Valentine's Day right?  :)  The hubby brought home a beautiful bouquet of long-stemmed roses and a sweet card so I figured this would be a great opportunity to shoot the P52 theme.

For those interested in settings, I used the Canon 24-70L lens set at 70mm, at ISO 800, 1/50, F2.8, hand held, natural light.

Project 52: Week 6 {Personal Photography Project}

So today I took the camera on the road in search of textures for this week's Project 52 theme which is "Texture".  I had a few ideas in mind so wanted to try them all and then decide which I liked best.  Ultimately, I ended up using my first idea which are these weeds that you can find along nearly every road here in my town.  I'm not sure what they are, but they are usually found in wet/swampy areas like roadside ditches.  Our own backyard even has these along the fence where the lawn drops off to the marsh.  If you know what these are called, feel free to enlighten me. LOL

For those interested in settings, I used the Canon 135L lens at ISO 50, 1/60, F4.5, hand held, natural light.  I also added a pink overlay at 50% opacity to add interest to the color.

Swim Meet at LeMoyne College {CNS Senior Photographer}

Last night I went over to LeMoyne college to watch the swim meet between our local Cicero North Syracuse team and Baldwinsville.  What a blast!  I've been itching to get into doing more sports photography, especially since most of the senior guys are into that.  Luckily, I had met Billy's mom a few months ago and she told me to come on out.  :)

Let me tell you, shooting sports is challenging.  But swimming....wow - very very hard.  Not only are the lighting conditions not all that great, but using a flash is frowned upon too.  Add in the intense speed at which these young athletes are swimming and it makes for a very challenging shoot.  I took nearly 100 shots in the hour I was there and, despite most of them being in focus, it was hard to tell who the swimmer was as the water splashed so magnificently around them.  But I'm thrilled with the shots I did get and am pleased to report that Billy broke our school record for diving with a 291.  Amazing!!  Take a look:

There are some more images from this swim meet on the Facebook fan page.  Stop by and leave some love for Billy!!

Are you a high school athlete?  Want photos of yourself "in action"?  Drop me a note and we'll get you on the calendar.  :)
