Is it really May? And a new kit!!

Here we are, more than halfway through the month of May, and we're getting FREEZE warnings.  What's up with that?!  All I really wanted to do this weekend was get the raised beds built and put the seedlings in the ground cuz they've already outgrown the little egg cartons I've currently got them in.  Instead, it poured all day Saturday (and news reports said 2 tornadoes touched down south of here) and Sunday was windy and around 45 degrees.

So I still made good use of my time and spent two days burning digiscrap goods and 2008 photos onto to DVDs.  I'm still working on that, actually.  Up to August 2008 now.  Normally I would be more up-to-date than this, but my software was giving me a lot of trouble and I became frustrated with it so I hadn't bothered since last March.  Yep - an entire year's worth of stuff.  Had to reinstall the disc burning software and then all was working fine.

Okay, enough blabbering.  LOL  I've got another new kit in the military series available now.  This one is for the Air Force families and is called Into the Blue.  It's still on sale for 30% off through the end of the day today, so go grab it!!  :)  Here's a look:

In The Navy Kit

So I'm a little late in announcing the arrival of the second kit in the military series.  Sorry about that.  It is called IN THE NAVY and is on sale for 30% off through the end of today.  The kit includes 10 papers, 28 unique elements, and 46 punch label words.  As always, you have the choice of picking up the complete kit, or just the element pack, or just the paper pack.  And you can get it at either A Cherry on Top or at CG Essentials.  :)

And here are a couple of layouts I created using images from the Department of Defense (permission granted).

The next kit in the military series is for the Air Force.  I expect to finish this up over the next day or so and will have it in the shop on either Friday or Monday, depending on how long it takes me to get some sample layouts made up.  So keep an eye on the shop for this one coming soon.

I'm also looking for some help from any Marines with the next kit.  Since I am not a military expert, it's important for me to do research on the subject I'm creating.  And it's always nice to have a military wife helping out by taking a few pictures for me to use and also to help critique the appropriateness of the kit itself. So email me if you think you can help.  My email addy is in the upper left corner of this blog.  :)

Chow for now ~

Christopher's trip to the hospital

Well this has been an eventful afternoon.  Christopher fell off the deck and his bike landed on top of him.  He ended up with a 1 inch gash on the side of his head, so off to the hospital we went.  They debated on stitches versus glue versus staples.  Finally decided to try just one staple.  Three hours later, we are home and he's doing fine.  He's annoyed that I wouldn't let him go to karate tonight.  Typical kids.  LOL  Here's a quick pick of his injury.  Took a few others on my cell phone while at the hospital, but haven't downloaded them yet.

Anyway, in other news, look for a new scrap kit on Monday.  This one is for the Navy folks.  :)  I would've released it sooner, but was waiting on permission from the Department of Defense to use images that are on their website in some layouts.  I'm thrilled that they approved.

Hope you have a fabulous weekend and a Happy Mother's Day.

In personal news, I've been rather sick this last week.  Got some kinda of cold or something.  So I went to the doctor and, of course, the first thing they asked if I had been traveling and where.  So I told them I had gone to Boston for a seminar.  Luckily, they didn't seem too concerned about the possibility of the swine flu.  But they also couldn't give me much to treat the symptoms other than Nasonex.  Yuck.

The weather has finally made a switch here, too.  Everything is green again, the daffodils are almost ready to bloom, and we're looking forward to some warm weather this weekend.  It was actually 91 here this past weekend.  Totally not normal for the end of April but I'm enjoying it.  We got all the patio stuff out and started cleaning up the sticks.  We'll be doing the first mow on Saturday.  :)

Other than that, not much else going on here.  Just trying to get better and enjoy the nice weather.

Happy Earth Day!

Even though our family is relatively "granola" most of the time, I figured today would be a good day to work on educating the boys a bit more about how we can do our part to keep the Earth a healthy and happy place to live.  Here are some of the things that are pretty easily understood by kids which we will talk about:

- How can we save more water?  Currently, we already do not leave water running while doing dishes or brushing our teeth.  But we can do more!  Having the boys bathe or shower together saves water.  And only washing laundry or running the dishwasher when we have a full load also saves water.

- How can we create less garbage?  Currently, we recycle and have a compost.  We can also buy products that use minimal packaging.  For instance, buying a frozen concentrated juice and then creating our own, saves on packaging compared to individual use sized juice boxes.  Less packaging equals less garbage.

- How can we use less energy?  Currently, we are using compact flourescent bulbs and have our thermostats on a program.  However, we can do other things to reduce our energy usage.  For example, we can use the clothesline to dry our clothes instead of the dryer.  We can also close the drapes at night to help keep the cold air out which thereby reduces our heat usage.  We can also use our grill more frequently in lieu of the electric oven/gas cooktop.  Another big one that we really need to work on is turning things off when they are not being used.  The boys have a bad habit of turning on a tv or a video game and then leaving it on when they leave the room.

- Other things we are doing:  planting a vegetable garden, using a barrel to collect rain water which can then be used to water the garden on dry days, walk the neighborhood to pick up litter and dispose of it, use our tote bags in lieu of plastic shopping bags (we need to do this more often - I forget to grab them), walk to the store for small shopping trips, and carpool to the gym with a friend.

So what are you doing this Earth Day?

April Fools . . . did you get had?

I did and it was by my 4 year old, of all people. He's a regular jokester anyway, but most of the time I can easily tell when he's trying to pull one over on me. But apparently he and Daddy worked on this one together to pull it off.

I had just got home from gymnastics with our older son. As I walked in the door, the younger son came up to me with this woefully sad look and said, "Momma.......I knocked over your studio light and it broke. I'm sorry."

At first, I was completely shocked (and I'm sure my facial expression showed that), but I just didn't know what to say. And as I was compiling my thoughts, he looked up at me with that mischievous look and said, "April Fools!!!". Let me tell you, I was happily relieved it was just a joke cuz I really didn't know how I was going to react to it had it really happened.  That little stinker!!

In other news, we've had a very busy week so far.  On Sunday, I went up to the hospital to take some pix of a newborn.  Monday I went to the gym and spent a good chunk of the day fiddling around with studio lighting for newborns.  Tuesday I sat on the CPSE board for a few hours at Christopher's school.  Wednesday I went to the morning program at David's school where his class did a presentation about butterflies in front of the whole school.  Then I went to the gym and did a bunch of shopping for photo props.  Then we went to gymnastics last night.  Today is a bit more relaxed....heading to the gym shortly, then we have a birthday party to go to tonight.  Tomorrow morning, David and I both have a dental appointment.  Then I'm going to the gym and the kids have karate after dinner.  Saturday I have a photo session and Sunday we are celebrating David's 7th birthday with his friends.  Busy, busy, busy.  :)

Alrighty, I'm off and running.....hopefully I'll get back here at some point with a completed digi kit to show ya.  Still working on it.
